Università degli Studi di Milano

Since 2011 I am associate professor at the Computer Science Department of Milan University. Previously I worked as assistant professor at the same institution, as software architect at Inferentia-DNM, as statistical analyst at The Continiuity Company S.r.l. and as software developer at Olivetti S.p.A.. In 2000 and 1996 I got respectively a PhD in Computational Mathematics and Operations Research and a Master in Computer Science at the Milan University.

My research activities are focused on the treatment of uncertainty in machine learning problems, with particular emphasis to inference of fuzzy sets, data quality aspects in machine learning, development of inferential models, design of hybrid learning systems and applications of systems for scientific computation. I published about ninety works as books, papers on international journals, conference proceedings and edited book parts. I participated in the activites of around ten research projects and research groups, both at national and international level. As a support to my research activities, I developed several open source software.

I currently teach Statistics and data analysis, Big scale analytics and Informatics didactics. Previously, I have taught courses of Computer Programming, Operating Systems, Simulation and Software design within Bachelor and Master degrees of Computer Science and Mathematics. I also organized and taught in PhD and graduate courses within the areas of Machine learning and Scientific computations. I supervised more than ten theses, mailny on machine learning.

I am involved in several activities focused on the popularization of computer science, including the development of teaching methodologies for primary and secondary education, the training of secondary school teachers and a radio broadcast on informatics culture. Between 2012 and 2017 I have been delegated by the Director of the Computer science Department to the activities related to cultural promotion and counseling for prospective students and I organized the activities of the commission for perspective students and vocational orientation of the Science and Technology division of the Milan University.
