Extraction of Functional Knowledge from Large Biological Graphs and Applications in Precision Medicine

Abstract

Huge amounts of molecular, genotypic and phenotypic data are continuously produced and stored in public databases. Although this may represent an invaluable source to unravel the complex mechanisms involving cellular components in the occurrence and progress of complex diseases, both integration and analysis of such data are yet difficult tasks, especially when their size is on a large scale. Suitable data representations based on graphs, e.g., functional networks and knowledge graphs, have shown to be powerful tools to allow a proper management of biological and medical data coming from the literature. In this talk we discuss some recent advances on this topic and related industrial applications.
